How to reduce applications that do not meet mandatory requirements

When you post jobs on Get on Board as a recruiter, you can reduce off-target applications before they arrive—by turning your most critical requirements into clear screening questions in the application form.

Start with truly mandatory requirements

Use only conditions that really decide whether someone can move forward, for example:

  • legal authorization to work in a specific country,
  • proven experience with a key technology,
  • minimum availability or time-zone overlap.

If everything is marked as mandatory, you may lose applicants who could still be a strong fit.

How to set it up

  1. Add screening questions to your application form and mark critical ones as required.
  2. Write direct questions with clear yes/no or multiple-choice answers.
  3. When you need prioritization, use scored questionnaires.
  4. Apply ATS filters to review high-fit profiles first.

Useful question examples

  • “Do you have legal authorization to work in Chile?”
  • “Do you have professional Ruby on Rails production experience?”
  • “Can you work in the UTC-5 to UTC-3 schedule window?”
